Windows 10 “ Sun Valley ” UI review in progress, release slated for 2021: report

Microsoft is reportedly working on a major interface overhaul with the 2021 update for Windows 10. The update will bring new design elements for File Explorer, the Start menu, and even the Action Center. This major update would be codenamed “ Sun Valley ” and will ship with a huge UI overhaul. The deployment of this new interface will be part of the Windows 10 “Cobalt” version. This next update for Windows 10 is expected to ship during the holiday season 2021.

Windows Central cites company sources saying that Microsoft is looking to make a complete UI overhaul with a Windows 10 update in 2021. This significant design upgrade will bring changes to heavily used elements such as the Start menu, Action Center, and File Explorer. These elements will be transformed to present better animations, modern designs and even new features.

Microsoft reportedly named this code design overhaul project as “Sun Valley” and it is expected to ship with Windows 10 “Cobalt” release during the holiday season in 2021. Internal documentation obtained by the post describes the project as ” invigorating and modernizing the Windows Desktop Experience to meet customer expectations in a world driven by other modern and lightweight platforms. “

The latest design overhaul released by Microsoft dates back to the first Windows 10 update five years ago. Since then, the company has released a few changes, but a complete overhaul has not been done. This UI overhaul would be handled by the Windows Devices and Experiences team, led by Product Manager Panos Panay.

Microsoft recently released an update to the Windows 10 Catalog that removed Adobe Flash Player from the system. This update first removes the dated flash drive, before support officially ends on December 31. The Redmond giant notes that once this update is installed, it can no longer be uninstalled.
