Congress leader P Chidambaram today expressed confidence that his party will win the Goa assembly elections scheduled for next year as well as the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

Mr. Chidambaram, Congressional Election Officer in Goa, addressed party workers after inaugurating the state election campaign office in Panaji.

“Let me tell one thing of the story… whoever wins Goa wins Delhi. In 2007 we won Goa… in 2009 we won Delhi. In 2012 we unfortunately lost Goa, in 2014 , we lost Delhi. In 2017 you (referring to party workers) won Goa, but our lawmakers lost Goa, ”he said, noting that Congress was defeated in the 2019 election. to Lok Sabha.

Mr Chidambaram said this time his party is moving forward with courage and confidence and “will win Goa in 2022 and Delhi in 2024”.

In Goa Assembly polls in 2017, Congress became the largest party winning 17 seats in the 40-member House. But, the BJP at this time forged an alliance with regional groups and independent lawmakers to form the government.

Congress currently has only four lawmakers in the state.

Mr Chidambaram said: “The story is ours… today we start on an auspicious day and our office was inaugurated by a valued statesman and former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane.

Addressing congressional workers, he said they should remember the “golden years” when Goa advanced, progressed and developed in areas such as industries, schools, colleges and roads.

“We will bring back this golden age of Goa, from 2022. I wish you to move forward with courage and confidence,” he told members of Congress.

Mr Chidambaram also said that Goa would not be colonized by “a political party”.

“Goa cannot become the political colony of an invader. Goa will be ruled by the Goans. Goa is owned by the Goans, by the Goans and for the Goans. Goa will be ruled by the Goans,” he said, without nominate any political group.

Notably, former Goan Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro left Congress last month and joined the Trinamool Congress headed by Mamata Banerjee.

Mr. Chidambaram said Congress presented the faces of its leaders to the state.

And in the days to come, the party will nominate more young leaders including women, annex tribes, fishing community and Dalits to rule Goa, he said.

Mr. Chidambaram also said he would guide party workers on how to convert polling stations into “dynamic polling stations”.

“Each bloc committee will have an office and each bloc committee office will function as the bloc election campaign office,” he said.

He also said that they had devoted enough time to planning and discussions and now is the time to get out there and start the work.

“In 100 days there will be an election. I don’t know the date of the election, but let me count 100 days from today. Every day we have to move forward, win more hearts and of spirits, ”he said.

Congress is expected to gain more votes and send a credible message to all of Goa and the country that the coastal state will see the Congressional government in 2022, he said.
