A woman was injured and nearly a dozen vehicles were buried in the slush that entered a village in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand following heavy rains on Monday morning, officials said.
Six four-wheelers and five two-wheelers were buried under rubble following heavy downpours, while a woman was slightly injured when mud flowed in the homes of workers engaged in highway construction in the region, said NK Joshi, the district’s disaster management officer.
The 20-year-old is of Nepalese origin. She belonged to one of 18 working families living in huts near the Karnaprayag-Gwaldam national road, he said.
The slush entered the village after the Panti stream was inundated by heavy rains.
Rescue operations are underway in the affected area between Narayanbagad and Tharali, he said.
