Finn Balor has not portrayed his Demon character since losing to Roman Reigns at the WWE Extreme Rules event last year.
He first portrayed the fan-favorite character on the Independents and took it to NXT, but has rarely used it in the main roster.
While appearing on the Cheap Heat podcast, he was like the Demon would return soon. He noted that the character has a special relationship with SummerSlam as he won the universal title at the 2016 event with the gimmick, but noted that he won’t be using it for the foreseeable future.
“I don’t want to give hope to anyone. Tomorrow there will be no Demon, [SummerSlam]. There won’t be a Demon for the foreseeable future,” Balor stated. “Once we sort of wrap up this storyline with The Judgment Day, we’ll get back on track with the Demon.”

Balor was asked about creative control over the Demon character, and he noted that he wanted more control over how the character is booked.
“I’d like more creative control over the Demon,” Balor replied. “Much more and I would do it very differently if I liked babysitting. Working with a company with so many different levels of management and different departments that need to be kept happy is something you lose that creative license you have as “You’re independent. So, as a perfectionist and something I’ve created, I’d like to have more control over it, but I understand the limitations of working for a company like WWE.”
